When your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, everything feels harder. You might feel anxious, numb, emotionally reactive, or like you just can’t fully relax—no matter how hard you try.

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a non-invasive, evidence-based listening intervention that helps re-tune your nervous system so you can feel calmer, clearer, and more connected.

Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, SSP is grounded in polyvagal theory and used around the world to support trauma recovery and emotional regulation.

What SSP Can Help With

  • Chronic anxiety, panic, or overwhelm

  • Feeling stuck in “fight, flight, or freeze”

  • Sound sensitivity or sensory overload

  • Emotional shutdown or irritability

  • Social withdrawal or difficulty connecting

  • Nervous system dysregulation from trauma, ADHD, or stress

  • Sleep difficulties or fatigue from being constantly "on edge"

  • Brain fog, difficulty focusing, or lack of motivation

  • Feeling numb, detached, or emotionally flat

SSP helps children and youth too!

  • How long will it take to complete the SSP?

In our initial listening session, we'll focus on understanding your nervous system to tailor the listening experience specifically for you. You'll be presented with options to find what feels most comfortable, and together we'll decide on the optimal listening time and session frequency. We’ll also assess the balance between supported and independent listening that works best for you.

Safety is our top priority throughout the SSP process, and we can adjust the approach as needed based on your individual requirements.

Clients may complete one round of the core SSP playlist between 2-18 months.

  • SSP is NOT covered by insurance.

    What you get:

    • 3-months of access to Five hours of self-paced listening

    • Personalized plan for your listening sessions

    • Weekly email check-ins

    • Pre- and post-assessments

    • One intake and one wrap-up session

      $595

If you are a therapy client, you will pay $65/month for access to the program.

There are three pathways for listening: connect, core and balance. So clients have the option to extend their listening for maintenance purposes.

  • If I am in-network with your insurance plan (Aetna) or you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance will typically cover the cost of our supported listening sessions.

Please note that insurance does not cover the subscription fee & support outside of sessions for accessing the SSP. The additional cost to access the SSP protocol and playlists, & ongoing email support is mentioned above.

  • Each person will respond to the Safe & Sound Protocol training differently so it is important to work collaboratively with a therapist.

Some of the listening can be done at home on one’s own but this must be discussed between you and your therapist. People who have experienced trauma and unresolved grief may have powerful emotional experiences when accessing a relaxed state and will need the support of a therapist to help them decide the pacing of training and to process the meaning of these emotional experiences that can arise.

As a provider of Safe & Sound Protocol, I am certified in this modality and committed to providing it to clients in the most clinically responsible way, using a somatic and trauma informed lens to therapy. I also collaborate with leading clinician supervisors from Integrated Listening Systems, the developers of SSP, and receive ongoing guidance and training to meet the specific client needs.

  • I offer the SSP in several formats to best meet your needs:

    • For EMDR/IFS Clients: The SSP is considered the gold standard of preparation work for EMDR therapy, increasing capacity for the nervous system to desensitize & reprocess traumatic events. The SSP also increases access to self-energy, which offers healing in Internal Family Systems work.

    • Standalone or Adjunct Support: If you’re interested in experiencing the SSP on its own or alongside other treatments, I’m here to offer that as well. If you’re working with other therapists or providers, I’m happy to collaborate with them to ensure a cohesive approach that respects and supports your individual journey.

  • The nervous system is the most important aspect of our work with helping clients heal.

Having a sense of groundedness and calm when we serve others is integral to their healing journey.

I offer a special SSP Consultation Package for fellow therapists for $500

This package includes access to all three pathways of the SSP for up to 6 months. We’ll start with an initial hour-long consultation & education call, and I’ll be available via email for ongoing support throughout your SSP listening journey.

  • Yes. SSP can be used as an adjunct to your current therapy or wellness practice.

  • Most people listen to calm music and notice subtle shifts in how they feel over time—like better sleep, fewer emotional triggers, or a greater sense of calm. Some experience stronger emotions during the process, which is why guided support is essential.

  • You’re welcome to book a consult and ask any questions. There’s no pressure to move forward.
